| How long could you survive without the internet? |
|
Jun 14, 2009 - 9:02 PM - by boz
|
Since the conception of the World Wide Web back in the late 1980s the internet has become part of our lives whether we like it or not. Over the years the internet has really taken off bringing visual, audio or text communication to the masses across the continents in an instant. It seems nowadays businesses big or small have to be a part of this revolution to survive and sell their products, and we as consumers gladly part with a monthly fee to our service provider to be part of this... | Why I despise the iPhone. |

Apr 24, 2009 - 10:59 AM - by waveydavey

Ok, this started as a quick reply to another post and ended up being a bit controversial to say the least so I've given it its own thread. I know I'm going to get hammered for this one from many sides, but I can be silent no more. I'd be interested in your responses......
<rant>I'm not anti iPhone, ok actually I am anti iPhone but it's because I just don't think it's as good a device as everyone seems to think it is. Apple have cut many corners to make it child proof. Too... [Read More]

| Marketplace blocking Non-US Developers |
|
Jul 01, 2009 - 2:34 PM - by Bassey
|
msmobiles are reporting that the Microsoft Marketplace (i.e. the on-line software store for Windows Mobile Software) does not allow non-US based developers to register. Apparently, the problem is down to the banking instructions you need to enter when you register. The system can currently only accept US-based bank routing - not the standard international IBAN's.
That said, though, the store doesn't officially launch until September/October and Microsoft promise to introduce International Payment systems some time this month. It does seem a bit strange, though that, nearly a year after the system was opened up to partners and developers, Microsoft hasn't got around to implementing standard payment systems. I mean, it's not exactly as if they've never done on-line payments before, is it?

| TG01 Coming to O2 |
|
Jul 01, 2009 - 2:13 PM - by Bassey
|
msmobiles are reporting a rumour that the TG01 is on it's way to O2 in both the UK and Germany and - if the rumour is to be believed - we won't have long to wait. They claim the launch date is the 9th July; that's next Thursday!
The TG01 is, of course, the Windows Mobile powered device announced by T-Mobile containing the 1GHz SnapDragon processor and a 4.1" display.
I can't help feeling it probably won't be called the TG01 if/when O2 launch it, mind

| Europe caps mobile charges |
|
Jul 01, 2009 - 9:02 AM - by Graffen
|
The cost of sending text messages from your mobile phone when you are overseas in the European Union has come down.
The maximum charge for sending a text is now 11 euro cents ($0.15; 9.4p) plus sales tax.
It is the first time that text charges have been capped. The previous EU average was 28 cents.
The price of making a call is capped at 43 cents a minute, down from 46 cents, while the price of receiving a call is capped at 19 cents, down from 22 cents.
"The roaming-rip off is now coming to an end," said EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding.
The cost of transferring a megabyte of data is capped at one euro.
Also, mobile operators have been forced to charge for calls by the second after the first half minute, instead of rounding up to the nearest minute.
Many mobile operators have fought against the new caps, which are expected to significantly reduce their profits from roaming charges.

| U2o iWalk 5400mAh Emergency Battery Charger - mixing Windows Mobile and a motorcycle! |
|
Jun 30, 2009 - 11:18 PM - by boz
|

I had a small project in mind to test the U2o iWalk 5400mAh emergency battery charger for it's strengths and possible weaknesses, it involved coupling the rechargeable battery with a Windows Mobile device and a motorcycle! When the rechargable battery and the other items I needed for this review arrived quickly, safely and well packaged, I couldn't wait to start on my project.

| Micro-USB now becomes the European standard |
|
Jun 29, 2009 - 8:44 PM - by windows
|
The European cellphone market, led by the European Commission, has adopted Micro-USB as the standard for cellphone charging/sync ports.
Cellphone manufacturers including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Motorola, NEC, LG, RIM, Qualcomm, Samsung and Texas Instruments support the standardization. The surprising name on this list has to be Apple because of its long-standing and widely used licensed, proprietary connector. The most noticeable company missing from the list is HTC, which uses the mini-USB port.
The standardization should be an across-the-board savings from reducing production costs, eliminating everyone's drawer full of chargers, and reducing waste at the local landfill. The first devices under the new standard should hit the shelves in 2010, eventually leading to devices and chargers sold separately.

ALK Technologies Inc, the leading developer of navigation and transportation software, today announced that its highly acclaimed CoPilot® Live™ satellite navigation system is now available for Android-based mobile phones. It can be purchased and downloaded immediately from Android Market for devices such as HTC Magic, T-Mobile G1 and the new HTC Hero.
